How to Use This Calculator
This calculator helps you estimate beam deflection for MayTec aluminum extrusion profiles under five common load scenarios. It uses standard beam deflection formulas with the material properties of EN AW-6063-T5 aluminum alloy (E-modulus = 70,000 N/mm²).
Step 1: Choose your support condition. Cantilever beams deflect the most, while beams fixed at both ends deflect the least under the same load.
Step 2: Set your span length and applied load. For distributed loads, enter the total load — the calculator converts to N/mm automatically.
Step 3: Select profiles to compare. Use Quick Compare for common groupings, or pick specific profiles from the full list. The chart shows deflection side by side, with bending stress and beam weight.
X vs Y axis: Non-square profiles (like 40×80) have different moments of inertia in each direction. Toggle between axes to see how orientation affects deflection.
L/ratio: The deflection ratio (span ÷ deflection) tells you at a glance whether deflection is acceptable. L/200 is typical for industrial frames, L/300+ for general use, and L/500+ for precision applications like optical tables or sensor mounts.
Important: This calculates single-beam deflection only. Real frames share load across multiple members and connections. For full frame analysis or assistance choosing the right profile, contact our engineering team.
